On 29 April 2020, the UK Supreme Court (UKSC) gave judgment in AM (Zimbabwe) v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2020] UKSC 17. AM is a vital case about the construction of ‘medical grounds’ in immigration appeals including Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

This briefing seeks to inform people about the case of AM, how it departed from previous UK caselaw, and how the HIV sector can utilise an understanding of AM to protect the human rights of people living with HIV facing removal.
