National AIDS Trust’s response to Cambridge University and Public Health England research about ending HIV transmission in England by 2030 Deborah Gold, Chief Executive of National AIDS Trust, said:
“We’ve made great progress towards the goal of ending new HIV transmissions by 2030, and this study shows what might be possible. However, to stay on the path the study predicts, we must meet crucial milestones and avoid complacency.
“It’s vital that we increase testing, particularly among the harder-to-reach groups. We need to make the HIV prevention drug PrEP more widely available. And we need to improve engagement in care for people living with HIV, to make sure everyone is being effectively treated so they can’t pass the virus on.
“This study shows that the 2030 goal is indeed within reach. But we won’t get there without a properly funded HIV Action Plan, which is why we’re calling on the Government to fully fund this ambition as part of the Autumn spending review.”
