Deborah Gold, Chief Executive of National AIDS Trust, said:
“HIV has been a proving ground for the harms a fragmented healthcare system causes, leading to a lack of joined-up planning and confusion about responsibility for paying for HIV testing and the HIV prevention drug PrEP.

“We therefore welcome the Government’s aims in this White Paper of addressing these challenges and supporting greater integration of care between those elements of the systems. It must coordinate better to provide effective care for people with long-term conditions such as HIV.

“A key test will also be whether these changes also enable investment in and a real focus on prevention and long-term thinking in the health system. This will be vital in meeting the national goal of ending new HIV transmissions by 2030.”
