Health management for HIV must be prioritised alongside other conditions. Many people, especially as they get older with HIV, are susceptible to developing comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease, kidney disease and diabetes amongst other.
Where treatment does not take account of other conditions, it can place excessive burden on the person living with HIV. Where different forms of care are not integrated, patients must deal with repeated questions and tests, managing multiple appointments and a lack of communication on how medication can interact.
In the briefing, we explore who should have responsibility of care coordination and the roles of healthcare providers and support systems in improving health management with multimorbidity.
