According to the Home Office’s 2012 Healthcare Needs and Pregnancy Dispersal Guidelines since 2012, people seeking asylum living with HIV should not be dispersed away from clinics where they have pre-established relationships with the clinics.
This information pamphlet details the rights of people seeking asylum with HIV. this will ensure that people living with HIV, healthcare professionals, voluntary sector professionals and relevant accommodation staff.
Negative experiences within asylum accommodation compounded with limited financial support can result in disruption to HIV treatment adherence and disconnection from life saving care. If dispersal is added on to this, it can be difficult for people living with HIV to establish a new relationship with a different clinic, especially where there is not ample preparation for the transfer so it is fundamental that unless it’s necessary they are placed in accommodation where they can continue with doctors they previously engaged with.
