The Scottish Parliament has voted down the proposed ‘Nordic Model Bill’ in a win for sex workers’ rights.
We are delighted that Scotland for Decrim’s campaigning has been successful in persuading MSPs to vote against this bill.
Scotland for Decrim is a grassroots campaign fighting for the full decriminalisation of sex work in Scotland.
Jacqui Stevenson, Senior Policy, Research and Influencing Manager, said:
“Congratulations to Scotland for Decrim – this victory would not have been achieved without their tireless campaigning.
This bill would have pushed sex work further underground, undermining the agency of sex workers and increasing the risk of HIV-related harms.
Whilst we are pleased MSPs have listened to sex workers’ concerns this time, we will continue to stand with sex workers and push for the full decriminalisation of sex work.
Only when sex work is fully decriminalised will Scotland be able to end new HIV transmission.”
