National AIDS Trust responds to Green Paper on work, health and disability

Responding to the announcement of a Green Paper on how the Government will support people with disabilities and long-term conditions to enter and remain in employment, Deborah Gold, Chief Executive of the National AIDS Trust, said:

“A significant minority of people living with HIV are unable to work because of their health. For others, who feel well enough to work, the major barriers to employment are the stigmatising and sometimes discriminatory attitudes they face in the job market.
We hope that the more personalised approach promised by today’s Green Paper will lead to people with HIV getting the support they need to find work, stay in work, and live well during times when work is not an option for them. But for this to happen there must be concerted effort from employers, not just Jobcentre Plus, to break down the unnecessary barriers to work which people living with HIV currently face.”
