UKHSA has released the 2024 sexual health data for England. Robbie Currie, Chief Executive of National AIDS Trust, commented:
This data highlights the vital importance of sexual health testing, including for HIV, and we welcome Dr Mohammed’s advice for those having condomless sex with new or casual partners to get regularly tested. A continued increase in the rollout of routine HIV testing (with the option to opt out) in hospital emergency departments, and year-round postal testing are vital if we are going to reach the goal of ending HIV transmissions by 2030.
It is notable and disappointing that disparities remain in terms of the sexual health among certain populations, including young people, gay, bisexual and men who have sex with men, and certain minoritised ethnic groups. As highlighted in our joint report with the One Voice Network, culturally appropriate sexual health care should be everyone’s right. The fact that this message does not appear to be reaching some parts of the community is a cause for concern, and something the Government must address.
