The British Government must put pressure on the Government of Uganda directly
NAT is deeply concerned about the Anti-Homosexuality Bill introduced by the Ugandan Parliament in October 2009. The Bill calls for life sentences for practising homosexuals and the death penalty for homosexuals with HIV infection.
Deborah Jack, Chief Executive of NAT, comments:
“This proposed law is a gross violation of human rights and would fundamentally undermine efforts to address the HIV epidemic in Uganda. Discriminatory laws like this are a barrier to preventing HIV and fuel its spread. The British Government must put pressure on the Government of Uganda directly, and through the Commonwealth and United Nations, to prevent this Bill from becoming law.”
