Daniel Fluskey, Director of Policy, responds to news that Grindr have paid £26m to settle UK lawsuit over allegedly sharing users’ HIV status:
“No one’s HIV status should be shared unlawfully with others.
Everyone has the right to expect that apps and platforms will keep their personal information, including their HIV status, safe and confidential, so we’re pleased to see the importance of the security of individuals’ HIV data recognised in this news.
Through our discrimination support service, we hear what an incredibly distressing experience it can be for people to have their HIV status shared with others without their consent, impacting their wellbeing, mental health, confidence, and can lead to discrimination.”
